5 Myths About Round Tables
1 March 2018
- Guests integrate worse at round tables. I often hear this argument, but it’s not entirely true. Notice that the rectangular table setting gives the impression that everyone is dining together, but in reality, you can only talk to the people next to you and at most with four people sitting opposite. However, at a round table, you can stay in constant contact with up to eleven people. Additionally, no one is blocking anyone’s view, which also helps in communication. And most importantly, your guests will best integrate on the dance floor during shared dances and games 🙂
- It’s harder to seat guests at round tables. Nothing could be further from the truth! Many couples who chose rectangular tables face the dilemma of whom to seat at the end of the table so that no one feels offended. Round tables have the advantage that there is simply no end of the table. Everyone is equally important and, moreover, is among their close family or friends. Organizing wedding receptions, I have often witnessed guests switching place cards at rectangular tables. This always causes a lot of chaos and unnecessary stress for both the guests and the couple, who, seeing the commotion at the table, glare ominously at the innocent staff 🙂 . At round tables, such shuffles are practically unheard of, so your guests will be seated exactly as you planned.
- There’s nothing to eat at round tables. Indeed, there is currently a trend for all cold appetizers to be at the buffet. This allows the beautiful decorations to be displayed, but it applies to both round and rectangular tables. If you prefer tradition and want appetizers to be on the table, the round setting is much more advantageous. You can easily reach every delicacy, and guests have more freedom in handling utensils.
- Our guests are traditionalists, so rectangular tables will be more appropriate for them. Polish guests are among the most demanding. They expect numerous attractions, surprises, and conveniences. Moreover, they pay attention to every, even the smallest detail. Rectangular tables are traditional, that’s true—they are used at every family gathering, meeting with friends, and most weddings. A round table will definitely be a change and will add uniqueness to your special day.
- Decorations for round tables are more expensive. Decorations are a very important element of every wedding reception. They must be cohesive and thoughtful, and their cost depends mainly on the concept and theme. Sometimes I hear the statement that you can put fewer decorations on rectangular tables, so more money will be saved. Yes, you can, but is it worth it? Think about the purpose—why are you ordering flowers? Is it just because they “have” to be there, or do you really want to give your reception a unique arrangement, making it special and one of a kind?
